My theme for this school year is "don't reinvent the wheel!"
In the past I've wanted to be an original. I've wanted to bring the best recipe to the gathering. I've wanted to have the best teacher gift idea. I've wanted to have the cutest crafts. I've wanted home-bake goodies to bring places. I've wanted to deliver hot, fresh and homemade meals to families in need. Yep, I wanted "it all."
And guess what? That's just dumb. Yeah, I CAN cook. Yep, I have some pretty great recipes. YAY, I have creative ideas. Yep, I make cute crafts. But, it doesn't need to be done all by me ALL OF THE TIME.
This year I'm giving myself permission to not be an original. And lucky me, I've surrounded myself with pretty awesome creative and resourceful friends! And friends that SHARE their good ideas. (Boo and thumbs down to those Mommy's that don't share their good ideas!!!) And you know what, embracing this truly frees me up to do the things I'm passionate about and focus more on those things! WIN!
So that meal I signed up to bring for a friend on Friday? Yeah, its gonna be from CostCo. Sure, I can make something but I'm slammed this week and for $20 at CostCo and 10 minutes I can still feed this family a healthy meal AND more importantly show I care which is more what it is about.
Those "first day of school" signs? Totally awesome! And totally NOT MINE. (links here in this post) The back-to-school welcome gift for the teacher? Cost $1 and was a total copy of my friend Melanie! (Which btw she has AWESOME recipes so check those out too!) Those two things were easy, simple to execute and look GREAT. And you know what? It bought me a "WIN" from Lukey's new teacher! She already thinks I'm awesome (shhh! Don't tell her the truth!).
All I'm saying is ... resources are out there. If you have a great, original idea (and time) that you want to do ... then RUN WITH IT! But hey, share it with the rest of us so we can ALL BE AWESOME! There is no need for some "one-upping" or secret awesomeness party. This mom business is hard enough alone, but if we all stand together our awesomeness grows three-fold. (picture us all holding hands around the Christmas Tree when the Grinch returns Christmas after his heart grows triple! That's us sharing our awesomeness!)
Happy Thursday Friends!
