We just had one of the best weekends in a LONG time. Well, really not too long because Thanksgiving was pretty awesome and that wasn't that long ago! YAY for us!
We were pretty happy NOT to be traveling. AND, I was pretty happy and feeling pretty caught up which allowed me some space to breath and really pour on the holiday fun and Christmas spirit. I was (still am) excited to JUST BE and JUST ENJOY for at least a few days, if not MORE!
I mentioned my plan (the aggressive light shows and eating out plan) on Friday night and we did follow through with that ... and surprisingly had a GREAT time. We left our house at 5 and didn't get home until 10 (late for 8pm bedtimes!) seeing a lot of great light displays along the way in St Paul. We also ate at a Minnesota landmark, Cossetta's, with the kids and it was YUMMY and delicious and relatively easy to do with the kids. The prettiest part of the night was our last stop at Rice Park for a walk through the lit park. It was just so gorgeous and had every bit of holiday magic in one stop. We enjoyed walking through the lit trees and playing on top of the BIG presents in the park. We would have stayed longer but it was CHILLY and way past bedtime already. The pretty photos I got made me HAPPY and made it worth freezing my fingers! :)
On Saturday we ALL SLEPT IN until 8:30. THAT NEVER HAPPENS. It was AWESOME! Oh my goodness, we needed that so badly and it felt so good. We didn't have anywhere to rush off to and had just planned on hanging out, cleaning and then having another adventure. It was a good plan and Daddy went for donuts and diet coke (super healthy!) and we had success cleaning.
Soon we were ready for adventure ... we went ice skating! Our local rink has open skating on the weekends and we went during that time. Bella quickly found her skate legs and Luke quickly found the penalty box. ;) No really, he really had fun investigating the hockey aspects of the ice rink and spent more time OFF the ice in general. Pretty normal for him! He did do OK on the ice and Bella did GREAT. Noah ... much like a newborn deer finding his legs. :) He walked off of the ice and said "Wets get outta dis pace."
Here are two of my favorite pictures ...
Bella now wants skating lessons. Luckily the boys don't want to play hockey yet (whew! Dodged that expensive bullet!).
The rest of the day was filled with naps, legos, christmas movies, swimming and a little shopping for Bella and mom.
And on Sunday, we rested. We had an actual JAMMIE DAY after again, sleeping in! I hit the SLEEPING IN lottery this weekend and I tell ya what... I could get used to that. It's been YEARS. Hallmark movies, laundry, Christmas shows, christmas carols, more legos, Gingerbread houses, playing all day and again a night of swimming made it just an awesome weekend.
Why was this weekend so awesome? We didn't have anything we HAD to do. We didn't have anywhere we HAD to go. We didn't have a calendar filled with travel and to-do's. I had been mostly "caught up" so I felt a bit more breezy and free than normal and I made a point to be a "YES MOM" for the weekend. And I really, really enjoyed myself.
I'm hopeful that we can ride out these feelings for the rest of the week and truly, TRULY enjoy Christmas together. I have a feeling we should be able to do that, especially once our houseguests arrive! :)
Hoping your weekend was FABULOUS!
